Mikel Arteta believes Kai Havertz just needs more time in the Arsenal team to adapt to his new teammates before he can play his best football.

Kai Havertz continues to be under scrutiny at Arsenal following his big-money summer move from Chelsea, and he was at the centre of plenty of debate again on Wednesday despite a good individual performance against Brentford.

Speaking about the German international in his press conference on Friday, Mikel Arteta answered a question about how they plan to get the best out of the summer signing.

“Try to help him as much as possible,” Arteta said. “Be next to him, give him the tools, give him the confidence, and give him the minutes to exploit his talent.

“There are so many parts of his game that he’s doing exceptionally well and we know the one that needs to keep improving.”

“But as always, with any player, it’s about giving support,” Arteta went on. “Especially when you see a player that does what he does every single day and the way he tries, the way he applies himself.

“You give them support and more tools and if they don’t perform, it’s because of us.

“He needs to play within the team because the amount of time that he’s played with these forward players is three or four times, and we’re going to have to carry on doing that.”

Fabrizio Romano reports that though it hasn’t been the easiest start for Havertz at Arsenal, the former Chelsea player isn’t generating any panic behind the scenes at his new club.

Arteta intends to trust and support the midfielder, and everyone at the club feels the same.

Arsenal believe Havertz is an important player, and he’ll be protected by the club.
