Following their 3-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday, two Arsenal players were selected by Garth Crooks for his BBC Team of the Week – scorers Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.

Crooks said of Rice that the midfielder has “been outstanding for the Gunners since his arrival”, adding that the “control of the ball from the corner on his chest was special and so was the finish under the circumstances”.

As for Odegaard, Crookes wrote that the Arsenal captain’s “equaliser 35 seconds after Manchester United had taken the lead was a lifesaver for Arsenal”, adding “Odegaard’s finish was first class…his technique had to be spot on, and it was”.

Rice and Odegaard were certainly two of the stars of Arsenal’s performance against United, and not just for their goals.

Rice completed 88% of his passes, won four of his five individual duels, and made three interceptions and tackles without being dribbled past once, in an all-action performance in the middle.

Ahead of him, Odegaard took five shots as he searched for the goals Arsenal needed, scoring one of them expertly, with another winning the corner for Rice’s goal. The Norwegian also led the press all afternoon.

After their pre-match injury in midfield, Arsenal could have been rocked, but Rice and Odegaard made sure the team came out with the win anyway.
