Arsenal have spent time scouting Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, along with a number of other major European clubs.

The print edition of O Jogo on Monday, September 26th, 2023 covers reports that Arsenal are one of a number of clubs to watch Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez.

The Gunners join the likes of Benfica, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus on the list, so there’s certainly strong competition.

O Jogo report that Benfica pushed to sign Gimenez last summer, and they’re still prominently on his case, sending a representative to watch him play against Ajax at the weekend.

For those not following Ajax’s situation at the moment, the club’s supporters ended up forcing authorities to call the game off after 56 minutes.

Feyenoord were leading 3-0, but Ajax fans threw flares and fireworks onto the pitch until the game was abandoned.

The BBC report that the match will be completed behind closed doors on Wednesday at 14:00 local time, though Ajax have stated that they disagree with the decision on the grounds of their congested fixture list.

Gimenez had starred in the first 56 minutes of the Ajax match, scoring twice and assisting once for Feyenoord.

Before the game, the 22-year-old Mexican striker had scored six in his previous six appearances for his club.

Add that to his 28-goal season in 2022/23, and it’s little wonder the big clubs are starting to pay attention.
