Matt Turner has said his farewells to the Arsenal fans after confirming his transfer to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.
Goalkeeper Matt Turner completed his transfer from Arsenal to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, with reports suggesting the deal was done for an initial £7m with a further £3m in potential add-ons.
Writing on Instagram after the move was confirmed, Turner thanked the Arsenal fans for their support during his time with the club.
“What a time! Thank you for the memories, Gooners,” Turner began. “I genuinely gave my all every single day to try to push and help the club as much as I could, I hope the fans always felt that.
“My family will forever feel at home in North London, Easton even seemingly fell in love with the sport! We accomplished so many things and made so many lifelong friendships at Arsenal.
“That being said, it’s time for a new challenge in my career and for our family life, I’m so excited for what’s to come! See you on the other side my Dawgs.”
An Arsenal fan long before joining the club, Turner is clearly proud to have played for the Gunners, and he leaves with a Community Shield winner’s medal after featuring in the squad on Sunday.
Aaron Ramsdale was clearly close with the U.S. international, making straight for Turner after the penalty shootout was over, and posting “thank you” on his Instagram story in response to the goalkeeper’s farewell message.
But the goalkeeper will now move on to Nottingham Forest, and he may well end up facing Arsenal in just a few days.
New signings have to be registered by midday on the last working day before a match, which means midday on Friday in the case of Arsenal’s match against Forest on Saturday.
As Turner has already been registered as a Forest player, he’s made it in well in advance of the deadline, and will be eligible to play.
Nottingham Forest have been pursuing two goalkeeper signings this summer, hoping to add both Turner and Dean Henderson to their ranks.
But having failed to finalise a move for Henderson, Forest’s current options are Turner and Wayne Hennessey. It wouldn’t be a shock to see the new signing getting a start.
