Last season, Quinten Timber was heralded as one of Feyenoord’s standout signings. The Rotterdam club saw potential in the former Ajax and FC Utrecht midfielder.

However, as the seasons progressed, making a mark in a team, especially one with as rich a heritage as Feyenoord, is always challenging.

For Quinten, the forthcoming season is pivotal. His primary goal? To cement his position at De Kuip. “That’s all I’m thinking about right now,” he said.

It’s not every day that two siblings rise to prominence in the world of football.

While Jurrien’s move to Arsenal might be a dream realised for him, it has also inevitably cast its shadow on Quinten’s ambitions.

Reflecting on his brother’s transfer, Quinten said, “It took quite a while, but Jurrien really wanted to go to Arsenal. There was always confidence that it would work out.

“He has now taken his dream step, I am very happy with that, because he has worked hard for it.

“He really deserved it too. He had great years at Ajax and won many prizes. Now this was a good time to make the step to the Premier League.

“That will also be a great rollercoaster.”

Jurriën’s transfer, reportedly around €40m, was a testament to his growth at Ajax, where he bagged numerous accolades. Such milestones don’t just signify a player’s success, but they also motivate peers and siblings alike.

For now, a switch akin to Jurrien’s isn’t on the horizon for Quinten. Feyenoord’s midfield is brimming with talent, as evidenced by the recent inclusions of players like Ramiz Zerrouki and Thomas van den Belt.

Yet, the ambition burns bright within Quinten.

He’s not shy about his desires: “Yes, definitely. In the future, of course. It would be nice to be able to take such a step.”

But he’s also grounded, understanding that any future transfer begins with his performance today, at Feyenoord.

As for what the future holds, only time will tell. But as Quinten concludes, “That would certainly be nice.”
