Newcastle United have remained in contact with Arsenal and Kieran Tierney over a potential transfer throughout the summer, as they continue to pursue a move.

Keith Downie reports for Sky Sports that Newcastle United retain an interest in Kieran Tierney this month, having maintained contact with Arsenal and the player himself throughout the summer.

Eddie Howe rates Tierney highly, and Arsenal understand the player’s wish to play regular football.

But Newcastle can’t afford a straight purchase whilst remaining within the Financial Fair Play regulations, so they want a loan with an option or obligation. Arsenal want a permanent sale.

Tierney has other clubs interested, so Newcastle’s hesitance to meet Arsenal’s demands could yet see him going elsewhere.

Sky Sports’ Mark McAdam claims Arsenal value Tierney at £25m, with the Gunners hoping to recoup what they paid for the signing in the first place.

But McAdam adds that all the clubs that have enquired so far have asked about a loan deal.

The Athletic write that Tierney has several suitors going into the final fortnight of the transfer window, and they confirm that Arsenal would be looking for a substantial fee to let him go.

The same source confirms Tierney would be open to moving on to play regularly again, as long as it’s with a team that suits his skills.

The Telegraph recently reported that Newcastle were looking at both Tierney and Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, hoping to sign one of the two. But Chelsea also aren’t keen on a loan for their player.

Arsenal took on Nottingham Forest on Saturday, and one of the main talking points ahead of the game was the absence of Tierney from the squad announcement.

Various reporters confirmed that Tierney hadn’t suffered an injury, Mikel Arteta had simply taken the decision to leave him out of the squad. It remains to be seen whether the injury to Jurrien Timber will see Tierney reintegrated.

As well as Newcastle United, Real Sociedad are also interested in taking Tierney on loan, and talks are continuing with the Spanish club.
