Real Sociedad appear to be on the brink of striking a deal with Arsenal to sign Kieran Tierney on a season-long loan according to The Athletic. Notably, this transaction doesn’t include an option or obligation to buy the Scotland international.
In line with Tierney’s preference to play regularly and to feature in the Champions League, Sociedad seems to be his chosen location.
Despite not featuring in the Premier League for Arsenal this season, Tierney made an appearance in the FA Community Shield when he substituted the now injured Jurrien Timber in the second half.
The 26-year-old Scotland international’s short-term future looks poised for resolution in the next few days. David Ornstein reported that Tierney will travel to San Sebastian this weekend to undergo a medical examination.
Tierney is still under contract with Arsenal until 2026, and the club feels secure about a temporary move. Despite talk of interest from Celtic and Newcastle United, neither side made a substantial offer. The 26-year-old’s wages proved a potential obstacle.
While Sociedad sits 13th in La Liga following two draws in their opening fixtures, the club’s first match post the international break is against Real Madrid.
“It’s not really up to me,” Tierney said recently on his future, “I’m happy, I’m working hard every day and getting minutes. I’m just trying to do as well as I can.”
