On Friday, Arsenal and Derby County confirmed the loan transfer of Tyreece John-Jules for the next few months, with both clubs adding that the move is only until January 2024.

The loan is John-Jules’ sixth temporary transfer, and his fifth in League One, having previously played in the same division for Lincoln City, Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday, and Ipswich Town.

Part of the reason the forward has continued to return to the same division is that he’s struggled to get a full season of games due to various injury problems.

Most of John-Jules’ loans have been cut short by injury, which is presumably also why Derby are only committing to a short-term loan for now.

If John-Jules can prove his fitness over the next few months, it certainly doesn’t seem out of the question that Derby would then look to extend the deal for the remainder of the season.

When the 22-year-old has been available, he’s often performed very well on his loans.

He was popular with the squad at Ipswich, on and off the pitch, and the club were certainly disappointed when he was eventually ruled out for the second half of the season.

With Ipswich going up to the Championship, John-Jules will try his luck in Derby instead.

Arsenal have had a number of dealings with Derby in the past, from the sale of Krystian Bielik to last season’s youth loans of Kido Taylor-Hart and Billy Vigar.

The League One side have two wins and two defeats from their opening four games of the current campaign.
