Fabrizio Romano reports that despite a lack of movement on the transfer front so far, Rob Holding is still expected to leave Arsenal in the final days of the summer window.

There are reportedly negotiations ongoing to make a deal happen, with Spanish clubs asking for the conditions of a transfer.

Holding made 24 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions last season, but he’s yet to make it onto the pitch for a competitive game in 2023/24.

Earlier in the window, David Ornstein broke the news that Besiktas had submitted an offer to sign Holding worth €2.5m (£2.14m), but that was far below what Arsenal might consider to sell the defender.

Arsenal rejected the bid, with Holding still having a year left on his contract and an option to extend to 2025.

Holding had an injury problem in pre-season preventing him from building up any momentum, though he has since returned to fitness.

Yet with the size of Arsenal’s squad at the moment, the former England u21 international hasn’t made the bench since the Community Shield.

Ed Aarons of The Guardian had also previously claimed that Holding was expected to leave Arsenal this summer, either permanently or on loan.

Besiktas seem to be out of the picture, but perhaps a move to Spain could now be on the cards.
