Highlighting his role in the team, Xhaka said, “I came as an experienced player and am trying to get this young team involved and show what you have to do for success.”

The determination of the Leverkusen side was evident. They began the game with intent, precision, and always seemed a step ahead of the Leipzig unit.

Jonas Hofmann, a national team player, echoed these sentiments, “We had to punch in everything we had in the tank and were rewarded for it.”

However, Leipzig, fresh off a victory against Bayern Munich, posed consistent threats throughout the game.

Despite facing pressure, Leverkusen held on, and as Xhaka emphasised, the aim was clear – to “play aggressively and send a signal that every team that comes to the BayArena doesn’t have to hope for anything.”
