David Raya has reached an agreement with Arsenal on personal terms, with the player informing Brentford he wants to complete the transfer.
Fabrizio Romano reports that David Raya has an agreement in principle with Arsenal on personal terms, with Raya’s camp informing Brentford that he wants to make the move.
Talks between the two clubs over the price and formula of the deal are now expected to accelerate.
Romano adds that Raya would be signing a long-term contract, though he only has a verbal agreement at this stage, nothing signed.
The Evening Standard confirm that Raya has told Brentford of his desire to complete the transfer, but the club believe their £40m asking price is fair and they’re comfortable with the possibility that the goalkeeper will leave for free if they don’t manage to sell.
Raya has a contract until 2024 and won’t renew, so Brentford are running out of time to cash in, but they’re seemingly okay with that.
On the other hand, Brentford have already signed a replacement goalkeeper in Mark Flekken. You’d think it would be in everyone’s interests for Arsenal and Brentford to reach an agreement.
Arsenal are expected to place a bid for Raya soon, but they reportedly value him at closer to £30m than the £40m Brentford want.
Raya made 39 appearances for Brentford last season, keeping 12 clean sheets.
The Gunners want the Spaniard to compete with Aaron Ramsdale for a starting spot in the coming campaign.
