She also spent a season loaned out to AC Milan in Italy, demonstrating her skills in Serie A and the Champions League.

“I knew all about the history of this club so when I found out Arsenal were interested, I didn’t think twice. We want to compete in all four competitions this season and I’m looking forward to making some memories with our supporters here.”

Club’s outlook

Jonas Eidevall, Arsenal’s Head Coach, and Clare Wheatley, Head of Women’s Football, both expressed their delight at the acquisition.

“Laia is a world-class defender and I’m delighted to be working with her here at Arsenal,” said Eidevall. Wheatley added that Codina’s recent World Cup experience would be “invaluable” in pursuing their season objectives.

A versatile player

Codina’s skill set is well-suited for the Women’s Super League.

Known for her ball control and aggressive play, she will add a new dimension to Arsenal’s defence.

She has been in talks with Eidevall regarding her role in the team and both are confident of a successful collaboration.

A promising season ahead

With this signing, Arsenal are gearing up for a competitive season.

Codina views the club as a side that’s evolving, particularly with the opportunity to compete in the Champions League.
