After scouting him for all of 2023, Arsenal are reportedly now interested in signing Dinamo Zagreb centre-back Josip Sutalo.

  • Following extensive scouting, Arsenal are reportedly looking to secure a deal for Dinamo Zagreb’s Josip Sutalo, competing against Fiorentina, Ajax and Napoli.
  • Sutalo’s potential signing could provide much-needed depth to Arsenal’s defence, with Auston Trusty and Rob Holding rumoured to be on their way out.
  • Sutalo is viewed as a capable stand-in and could see game time in Cup competitions.

Arsenal’s long-standing quest for further defensive reinforcement appears to be zeroing in on Josip Sutalo.

The Dinamo Zagreb centre-back has been under the careful watch of Arsenal’s scouts for more than six months and is now back in the headlines.

The Gunners’ interest in Sutalo dates back to 2022, tracking his performances and growth at Dinamo Zagreb.

With Fiorentina’s initial bid of €15m turned down, the Croatian club now anticipates a more substantial offer, hoping to secure around €25m.

Before the window closes, Arsenal’s defence is likely to see more changes with the potential departures of Cedric, Nuno Tavares, Auston Trusty and Rob Holding. These shifts in the squad could pave the way for Sutalo, a strategic addition following the summer recruitment of Jurrien Timber.

At just 23, Sutalo has made a name for himself as a ball-playing defender, marked by his aerial prowess and quick reading of the game allowing him to make crucial interceptions.

While clubs such as Fiorentina, Ajax and Napoli have also expressed interest, Arsenal’s long-term scouting might give them an edge in securing his signature.

Though Sutalo might not be an immediate starter in the Premier League or Champions League, his presence would offer a valuable cover in the squad and potentially see him feature in Cup competitions.

While€25m might seem like a lot for a squad player, it is the same amount the club paid for Jakub Kiwior in January.
