Arsenal’s primary focus in the final days of the summer transfer window is on outgoings, but they’re keeping an eye on any defensive signing opportunities.
Sami Mokbel reports for the Daily Mail that Arsenal’s primary focus for the final day or so of the summer transfer window will be on outgoings, with the club needing to try and balance the £200m they’ve spent on new signings already.
But the Gunners are still keeping their eyes open for any opportunities that may come up before the deadline, and if they do make another signing, it’s likely to be a defender.
With Jurrien Timber’s injury, Arsenal are obviously down a player compared to their plans for the season.
Various other Arsenal defenders have returned from injury in the last couple of months, including Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and William Saliba, but it’s not impossible the club look to add one more before the deadline.
All the same, it would be a surprise to see Arsenal making another move now. The rumour mill has been relatively quiet over the last few days, and it’s rare that an Arsenal transfer breaks on deadline day without any prior warning.
If the Gunners had managed to get more players out of the door earlier in the window, then an incoming might have been a strong possibility.
But with so much uncertainty about outgoings even with just a day left, Arsenal don’t really have the security (or even the squad space) to spend big on another player.
Perhaps if Arsenal can have a big final day with outgoings, then they can start to think about how they might invest that money in January instead.
