Former Arsenal winger Willian has performed a U-turn on his departure from Fulham, and he’s now set to sign back on with the club.
Former Gunner Willian held a medical with Nottingham Forest last week, but the Brazilian winger now appears set to return to Fulham for another season.
Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail reports that Willian is set to rejoin Fulham, with final negotiations now close to a conclusion.
There was a breakthrough in talks over the weekend, with Fulham making an improved offer to the player.
They were initially offering him a 12-month deal with an option to extend, though it’s not clear whether their new deal is on the same terms.
Willian joined Fulham on a free transfer last summer, making 30 appearances for the club.
A move to Nottingham Forest would’ve seen him facing off against Arsenal in their opening game of the Premier League season, but staying at Fulham only moves that Emirates Stadium reunion back by a couple of weeks.
Arsenal play Forest on August 12th, and Fulham on August 26th.
After seven years at Chelsea, Willian joined Arsenal in 2020, but the transfer didn’t go as planned.
Despite making 37 appearances for the Gunners, the winger only scored one goal and never really won over the supporters. He later admitted the transfer was probably a mistake.
The Brazilian moved back to his home country to join Corinthians, but things didn’t go much better over there, and he quickly returned to the Premier League.
Speaking earlier this year, after reigniting his career with Fulham, Willian told the media he’d never go back to play in Brazil.
After those two missteps, Willian finally found his feet back in England, scoring five goals and assisting six for Fulham in 2022/23.
