Arsenal have had a busy summer on the transfer front already, spending heavily on three new additions to Mikel Arteta’s squad.

If reports are to be believed, Arsenal signed Declan Rice for £100m with £5m in add-ons, they signed Kai Havertz for £65m, and Jurrien Timber for €40m (£34.6m) with €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons.

The Timber figures are the only ones we have official confirmation on, with Ajax posting the exact fee on their club website.

But it’s safe to assume the widely-reported fees for the other two deals are broadly correct, putting Arsenal’s spend at around £200m.

Speaking to Bloomberg this week, Arsenal Chief Executive Vinai Venkatesham credited that investment to the ambition of the club’s owners.

“What we’ve done this summer is supplement that fantastic squad with three new signings, the three positions we wanted to strengthen, the three players we wanted,” Venkatesham said. “And we were delighted to get them right at the start of the window.

“It was a heavy, significant investment, and that investment really shows the ambition of our ownership group.

“They have had enormous success with their franchises in the U.S. over recent years, winning the Super Bowl, winning the Stanley Cup, and winning the NBA Championships.

“So they’ve really invested behind the team, and have really supported us this window so we will be ready for the fight this season.”

Arsenal’s positive and aggressive approach to the summer window has certainly been refreshing for supporters, and the new additions look to be settling in well in pre-season.

The fact that all three have already been involved in matches is encouraging as well, and they should be at full match sharpness by the time the Premier League kicks off just three weeks from now.

It was the summer Arsenal needed, and it’s all gone to plan so far.
