With Arsenal exploring a deal for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, Nottingham Forest are negotiating to sign Matt Turner on a permanent deal.
David Ornstein reports that Nottingham Forest are considering the signing of Matt Turner, with a gap in valuations between Forest and Arsenal but talks continuing.
Arsenal are looking at the addition of Brentford goalkeeper David Raya this summer, which would seemingly make Turner surplus to requirements.
Aaron Ramsdale was already keeping Turner out of the team in the big games, and adding Raya to the squad wouldn’t do much to change that.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Forest are looking to sign a goalkeeper this summer, but they’ll only bring in either Turner or Dean Henderson – not both.
Forest have already been in contact with Arsenal over the conditions of a deal for Turner, and it would be a permanent transfer if it happens.
CBS Sports confirm that Turner is of interest to Nottingham Forest, and they quote the goalkeeper talking last month about his desire to be on the pitch more often.
“I learned so much and we won games, but I would have liked to play a little bit more,” Turner said. “On the personal side, I didn’t hit as many goals as I would have really liked to.”
29-year-old Turner made seven appearances for Arsenal last season, five in the Europa League and two in the FA Cup, with Karl Hein playing in the League Cup.
In the Europa League group stage, Turner appeared to be Mikel Arteta’s preferred choice, but he missed the final couple of games through injury, and then he lost his place for the round-of-16 second leg.
In the league, Ramsdale played every game for Arsenal last season. If Turner wants regular football, Nottingham Forest would probably be the better option.
