Former Arsenal midfielder, Jill Roord, has signed a three-year deal with Manchester City.

The Dutch international, who played a key role for Wolfsburg in the Champions League final, is thrilled to be back in England.

Manchester City have secured a major addition to their Women’s Super League squad with the signing of Dutch midfielder, Jill Roord from VfL Wolfsburg.

The 26-year-old’s transition follows a two-year tenure at Wolfsburg, during which she scored an impressive 31 goals in 69 appearances.

“I always thought this was a fantastic club with a lot of quality and I’m very excited to start here,” said Roord.

“I really like the way they play, and I feel it suits me perfectly.”

Roord’s CV boasts an enviable list of accolades, including a Euro 2017 winners medal with the Netherlands and a previous spell in the Barclays Women’s Super League at Arsenal.

Her 86 international caps since 2015 further prove her impressive pedigree in the game. Roord will arrive at City after the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

While leaving her mark on the Frauen Bundesliga, Roord is eager to embark on this new journey with Manchester City.

“I’m not the oldest but also not the youngest anymore, usually this should be the good years as they say,” she declared.

As she steps into the 2023/24 campaign wearing the number 20 shirt, Roord is poised to add further depth and dynamism to Manchester City’s midfield.

“I think it suits me perfectly. I’ve always thought this league is super interesting, super competitive and especially the past two years and what’s happened I think for every player playing in England is like a dream,” she added, apparently forgetting that she’s already played in England before.
