Nathan Butler-Oyedeji was playing for the Arsenal u21s in their friendly against Boreham Wood over the weekend, but it seems the young forward is set for a loan move this season.

Speaking to The Beautiful Game Podcast in an interview released this week, Butler-Oyedeji suggested he’s looking to prove himself in the senior game with his first full-season loan this year.

“Possibly another loan, a season-long loan,” Butler-Oyedeji said of his plan for the upcoming season. “To really establish [myself], getting first-team football, prove myself and go from there, really.

“I don’t really mind [where], League One, League Two, I’m open to abroad as well.

“We’ve spoken to the club (Arsenal), but I still need to speak to them to iron another few things out.”

Butler-Oyedeji went out on a short-term loan last season, joining Accrington Stanley.

Though he’d largely played at centre-forward for Arsenal in the first half of the season, the 20-year-old played more of an attacking midfield role for Accrington, and he was in and out of the side over his three months with them.

Overall, the Arsenal academy youngster made five starts and six substitute appearances in League One. A decent start, but something he’ll be looking to build on now.

Earlier in the campaign, Butler-Oyedeji had impressed against senior opposition playing for the Arsenal u21s in the EFL Trophy.

The forward won the EFL Trophy Player of the Group Stage award, receiving 45.2% of the fan vote after scoring three goals and assisting one in his three group appearances.

Butler-Oyedeji went on to score against Stevenage in the first knockout game of the competition, but Arsenal slipped to a 3-2 defeat anyway.

That individual form led to appearances on the bench for Arsenal as they faced Newcastle United in the Premier League and Oxford United in the FA Cup, before he completed his loan transfer to Accrington later in the month.

Now it’s about finding the right club to take the next steps.
