Brighton and Hove Albion have now turned down four different bids for Moises Caicedo from Chelsea, with Brighton demanding Chelsea match Declan Rice’s fee.
David Ornstein reports for The Athletic that Brighton and Hove Albion turned down an £80m bid from Chelsea on Thursday.
The offer was worth £75m guaranteed, with £5m in add-ons, and it was instantly rejected by email.
Chelsea had already previously made three bids for Caicedo, worth £60m, £65m, and £70m. But the jump up to £80m hasn’t changed anything in Brighton’s stance.
Brighton are still ideally hoping to keep Caicedo, and they want more than £100m to sell. They’re using the £105m signing of Declan Rice by Arsenal as a benchmark for their valuation.
Caicedo wants the transfer, and personal terms won’t be a problem. Despite the previous links to Arsenal in January, Chelsea are clearly the midfielder’s primary suitor now.
But with Chelsea still at least £20m off Brighton’s valuation, the Blues are now considering alternative targets.
Earlier in the summer, Arsenal checked in with Moises Caicedo’s camp as the negotiations for Rice stalled.
Arsenal had made a previous move for Caicedo in January, bidding £60m and then returning with a second bid of £70m. Both were swiftly rejected.
But those bids only came in after the Gunners had seriously investigated a January move for Rice, which proved impossible. This summer, Arsenal prioritised the Rice move and eventually got it done.
