  • Arsenal is likely to lose their long-time target, Ivan Fresneda to Barcelona, the deal is reportedly closing in.
  • Deco, Barcelona’s new sporting director, has held meetings with Fresneda, a key player for Arsenal’s transfer strategy.
  • Despite Arsenal’s interest and previous bid, Barcelona’s deal could strike a blow to Arsenal’s plans in the transfer market.

In the fiercely competitive world of football transfers, Arsenal could soon face a disheartening setback.

The club’s long-time target, Ivan Fresneda, the 18-year-old right-back from Real Valladolid, is reportedly close to joining Barcelona.

Barcelona’s new sporting director, Deco, has reportedly held meetings with Fresneda.

The young star, who has already proved his mettle in the La Liga, has a release clause of £17million. However, Barcelona’s financial constraints may mean they are only willing to offer around £8.5 million.

Both Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund submitted offers of £13 million for the promising player in January, but neither club managed to secure the deal.

Barcelona now seem to be in the driver’s seat, with Fresneda admired for his pace, ability to cross, and confidence taking people on.

Fresneda has spoken in the past about his admiration for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, hinting at his interest in the club. Despite this, it appears the young player is tilting towards a Barcelona deal.
