Sheffield United have agreed a deal to sign Auston Trusty for around £5m, though they still need to sort personal terms with the player.

Sheffield United reporter Darren Smith claims the club are aiming to secure the purchase of Auston Trusty from Arsenal this summer.

According to Smith, the deal would be a permanent move around the £5m mark, with the Blades already having agreed terms with Arsenal.

As it stands, Sheffield United still haven’t reached an agreement on personal terms with Trusty, though Smith doesn’t believe that will be a significant issue.

The defender has been linked with a transfer all summer, with Rangers among the clubs reportedly pursuing him. But that option is fast fading.

Recent reports suggested Trusty remains the preferred option for Rangers boss Michael Beale, but talks over that transfer have stalled and the club are focusing on other positions.

With Sheffield United now joining the race and agreeing a fee with Arsenal, it’s hard to see Rangers completing the signing.

Ipswich Town were also among a sizeable number of clubs keen on a move for Trusty, after his loan spell in the Championship with Birmingham City last season.

The defender won the Supporters’ Player of the Season award with Birmingham, and he was only a couple of appearances off hitting 50 games for the side.

Trusty joined Arsenal for the pre-season tour of the U.S., helping the Gunners to win the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge by hitting the crossbar from range.

But when it came to the actual matches, Trusty featured for just 10 minutes as a substitute against the All-Stars, before failing to come on against Manchester United and Barcelona.

With Arsenal making the defensive addition of Jurrien Timber, and injured defenders like William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu returning to fitness, it’s hard to see a way in for Trusty now that the season is almost underway.

Trusty joined Arsenal in 2022 for a fee of around £1.8m, so a £5m sale would represent a profit.
