Former Watford youngster Adrian Blake left the Championship club on a free transfer this summer, joining FC Utrecht on a four-year deal.

The 18-year-old winger believes Utrecht is the best place for the next steps in his career, but he’s hoping his long-term pathway leads him to the Emirates Stadium.

“I hope to play for Arsenal one day,” Blake admitted (via Sport Witness). “I know Dennis Bergkamp, of course. He was a fantastic player. Everyone remembers that goal against Newcastle United.”

Blake went on to reveal that he could have moved to the Premier League this summer, but he felt the move to Utrecht would give him a better chance at immediate senior football.

“There was interest in me from the Premier League, but I would not get any opportunities in a first team there,” he said.

“I will get them at Utrecht. The club has mapped out a trajectory for me and I have chosen change.

“I am a winner and I want to entertain people. Many football players have made a name for themselves here, such as Noni Madueke. The choice to come to Utrecht was therefore a no-brainer for me.”

Blake made his debut for Watford’s first team before leaving the club, coming off the bench in the League Cup against MK Dons, starting in the FA Cup against Reading, and making a late cameo in Watford’s last Championship game against Stoke City.

The youngster is also an England u18 international, playing in all three friendlies over the June break.

But for now, the winger will be looking to make his mark overseas, with an Eredivisie debut in his immediate future.
