West Ham United are looking to sign Nuno Tavares from Arsenal for a fee of around £8m, according to a report.

Mark Douglas reports for i News that West Ham United are interested in Nuno Tavares, with Arsenal willing to cash in on the left-back after his season on loan with Marseille.

Marseille had reportedly looked at making Tavares’ deal permanent, but they didn’t have an option to buy and didn’t end up agreeing on a price before sending him back to Arsenal.

The same outlet reports that Tavares is keen to stay in England if possible, and West Ham are the club that have shown the most interest.

There has been contact with other Premier League sides as well, with Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray also keen.

A fee of £8m has been mooted, which would mean Arsenal breaking even against the £8m fee they signed Tavares for in the first place.

Perhaps that’s unsurprising, as the left-back has seemed increasingly surplus to requirements at Arsenal.

Even with the possibility that Kieran Tierney leaves the club this summer, there haven’t been significant suggestions that Tavares is preparing to take his spot in the squad.

As it stands, Oleksandr Zinchenko is clearly Arsenal’s first-choice left-back, but it’s possible Jakub Kiwior might end up playing the backup role.

With the potential signing of Jurrien Timber, Arsenal would be able to play Timber as a right-back stepping up into midfield, the same role Thomas Partey played at the end of the season.

We saw that Mikel Arteta was willing to use Kiwior at left-back in that system, in the same way that he’s often used Ben White at right-back on the other side.

Tavares could well find his minutes limited, as Tierney did in the 2022/23 campaign. A summer move is certainly on the table.
