Leandro Trossard won’t be involved with the Belgian national team over the upcoming international break, after undergoing a minor procedure.
Belgium head coach Domenico Tedesco announced his squad for the upcoming international break this week, with Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard a surprising absentee.
Belgian outlet HLN report that Trossard’s absence is due to a minor operation he had to have following the end of the Premier League campaign.
The injury is set to keep him out of Belgium’s European Championship qualifiers, but it’s not clear exactly what the timeframe of his absence is beyond that.
Team News and Ticks report that Trossard is currently on holiday in Ibiza, but he has a strength and conditioning coach with him.
The implication there is evidently that the forward is attempting to get some deserved time off whilst also working on his recovery.
As it stands, Belgium are second in their European Championship qualifying group, though they’ve only played one game whilst group leaders Austria have played two.
Over the current break, Belgium will take on Austria on June 17th, followed by a meeting with Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein and Estonia on June 20th.
Two teams qualify from each group, but Belgium also have Sweden to worry about, so they’ll want to pick up a couple of wins this month.
They’ll have to do it without Trossard though, and they’ve also opted not to call up Albert Sambi Lokonga.
Trossard joined Arsenal in the January transfer window, and he hit double figures for assists in his few months playing for the club.
That’s certainly a strong start, though he’ll hope to add a few more goals in his first full campaign in north London, having only scored once so far.
The 28-year-old will also be looking forward to his first season in Champions League football, having only previously featured for Arsenal and Genk in the Europa League.
