Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior scored his first international goal for Poland on Friday, whilst helping them to a clean sheet against Germany.
Jakub Kiwior has become a key fixture in the Poland team over the last year, making his debut last June and playing all but three minutes of Poland’s 11 fixtures since then.
That includes four starts at the World Cup, where Kiwior clearly did enough to convince Arsenal he was worth a January bid. But the one thing missing from his first year in international football was a goal.
That situation was rectified on Friday, as Kiwior netted in a friendly against Euro 2024 hosts Germany.
With half an hour on the clock, Kiwior met a corner with a header. His effort bounced in front of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, before looping up into the top corner for 1-0.
On the defensive end, Kiwior made three clearances and three interceptions, helping his side to a clean sheet.
Poland struggled to hold onto the ball, so his 72% pass accuracy was actually above the team average of 70%.
That’s to be expected playing against a top side like Germany, and Kiwior will still be delighted with his day’s work.
Poland will now return to their Euro 2024 qualification campaign, with a game against Moldova on Tuesday.
You’d expect Kiwior to be in the starting lineup once again, before beginning his holidays next week.
