Speaking in a clip shared by Goal on Monday, Wolves’ Hwang Hee-chan was asked about the noisiest fans in the Premier League, to which he gave a simple response.

“I think Arsenal,” Hwang said. “I would say Arsenal, yeah.”

The Arsenal fans were certainly in good voice during the game against Wolves at the end of May, the final game of the Premier League season.

Despite confirmation that the Premier League title was heading to Manchester City, the Arsenal fans turned out in droves to back the team for one more game ahead of the summer break.

Arsenal were inspired to a 5-0 win on the day, with Hwang playing the first 68 minutes of the match.

Then, after the game, the majority of the stands remained full as the team held a lap of appreciation and Mikel Arteta and Martin Odegaard gave speeches on the pitch.

But it wasn’t just on that final day that the Arsenal fans were in good voice. Throughout the campaign, the supporters at the Emirates Stadium made themselves heard.

The addition of the pre-match anthem and the increasing prominence of the ‘Ashburton Army’ has certainly helped, as has Arsenal’s rise up the Premier League table.

Perhaps the dip of the last few years has also ended up helping the atmosphere, as entitled, fair-weather fans gave up their tickets to be replaced by a new generation of supporters.

Combine that with a title race, and it’s not hard to see why the atmosphere has improved.

Odegaard and Arteta both referenced the connection with the fans in their post-season speeches.

“I feel so connected to this club, the supporters, and everyone. I love it,” Odegaard said, with Arteta adding: “Together we have reconnected the soul of this football club, and the soul of this football club is you guys.”

If the fans can bring that same enthusiasm to the 2023/24 campaign, they should help to make the Emirates an intimidating place to come to.
