Jeorge Bird reports that George Lewis is training with Norwegian side Kristiansund BK, following his recent Arsenal exit.

Lewis had reached the end of his contract in north London, and Arsenal confirmed his departure through their released list on Friday.

The 23-year-old initially signed for Arsenal in 2020, after a trial with the club.

He spent the next three seasons with the academy, but he struggled to make the impact he would’ve wanted and didn’t go out on loan before his eventual exit.

It was certainly no surprise to see Arsenal parting ways with Lewis at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, as he’d hardly featured on the pitch.

The winger didn’t make any appearances in the Premier League 2 or the EFL Trophy, with his minutes limited to the Premier League Cup and Premier League International Cup tournaments – in which Arsenal often rotated.

Between those two competitions, Lewis played six times for a total of 329 minutes, making four starts. He won a penalty in one of the appearances against Burnley.

Those six games were spread from September to February, so there was no suggestion of injury lay-offs. But it’s hard to get a run of form going with a list of appearances like this:

  • September 6th – PL International Cup – Jong Feyenoord – 15 minutes
  • September 23rd – PL Cup – Burnley – 82 minutes
  • November 19th – PL Cup – Stoke City – 62 minutes
  • November 30th – PL International Cup – Sparta Prague – 14 minutes
  • January 31st – PL Cup – Burnley – 90 minutes
  • February 7th – PL International Cup – PSV – 66 minutes

Lewis will hope that a return to Norway brings the potential for a more consistent run of games with a new club.

Blessed with pace, the winger certainly has the raw attributes to make for an intimidating opponent on the flanks. But he has to play on a more regular basis and develop his technical game.
