Arthur Melo’s failed transfer to Arsenal may have gone further than many realised, with claims that he even made the trip to London Colney last summer.

After their recent reports on Aaron Ramsdale, Bukayo Saka, and William Saliba’s new contracts, football insider Team News and Ticks has been making a name for themselves on Twitter in recent months.

But earlier this week, as well as sharing some news, the account shared some information about a transfer that almost came to pass last summer.

Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo spent the 2022/23 season on loan with Liverpool, making just one appearance in a campaign blighted by injuries.

But Team News and Ticks reports the player also visited Arsenal at London Colney, before ending up at Liverpool.

Reports at the time suggested Arsenal were offered the chance to sign Arthur Melo from Juventus, but The Athletic wrote that the Gunners had declined to reignite their interest in the midfielder.

In the end, Liverpool made their move for the Brazilian, joining on loan with a reported option to buy set at £32m.

Yet it seems the deal was closer to going through than those reports made it sound.

Arthur had also appeared to be a serious Arsenal target in the 2022 January transfer window, with Edu Gaspar even reportedly coming to a preliminary agreement with Juventus.

But the club hierarchy turned that move down, and it never ended up happening in the summer.

At the end of the summer window, Arsenal made multiple deadline-day bids for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz instead, all of which were rejected.

The Gunners failed to add a midfielder to the squad, and they eventually signed Jorginho in the following window.
