Arsenal should be able to close a deal for Jurrien Timber around the €40-45m mark plus bonuses, according to a report.
Florian Plettenberg reports that Jurrien Timber is on the verge of joining Arsenal, with Bayern Munich not currently involved in the race as the defender prioritises a move to north London.
Timber already has a verbal agreement with Arsenal over personal terms, so all that remains is agreeing a fee with Ajax.
Plettenberg claims an agreement is expected between €40m and €45m, plus bonuses, which would be viewed as a good deal for all parties.
Fabrizio Romano writes that Timber believes Arsenal have the perfect project for his future, and he was immediately convinced by Mikel Arteta’s plan for him.
Arsenal’s second bid for the 22-year-old is expected soon, with Romano adding that a bid of more than €40m will advance talks with Ajax.
Dutch journalist Mike Verweij recently told De Telegraaf’s Kick-off podcast that Timber is focused on a move to Arsenal.
“Timber has said from the very first moment that he only wants to leave Ajax for an absolute top club,” Verweij said.
“He doesn’t listen at all to other clubs that report after Arsenal and Bayern Munich.
“Even Bayern Munich, who have not yet made an offer, are still waiting. Because Arsenal are his dream and priority. He set his sights on that.”
Writing for The Athletic earlier this week, David Ornstein confirmed that talks are progressing positively following Arsenal’s failed opening offer of £30m, and there’s optimism on all sides that an agreement will be reached.
Centre-back Timber has two years left on his contract, and he can also play at right-back or in midfield.
Timber made 47 appearances for Ajax in the 2022/23 campaign, and the 22-year-old is also a Dutch international, playing 15 times for the national team.
