In a match that kept Arsenal fans on the edge of their seats, it was Reiss Nelson’s final push in the 97th minute against Bournemouth that ultimately triumphed.

After being down 2-0 to the Cherries at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners faced a steep uphill battle.

The tables turned when Ben White equalised late in the second half, but it was the last-ditch corner deep into stoppage time that set the stage for Nelson’s heroics.

Bournemouth’s defence managed to clear the initial corner delivery, but only as far as the edge of the penalty area.

Nelson, with impeccable timing, chested down the ball and launched a flawless half-volley into the back of the net, sealing the fate of the game.

The euphoria that followed among players, coaches, and supporters was palpable, creating an unforgettable moment in the season.

Katie McCabe, the Republic of Ireland captain, proved her mettle yet again by securing the women’s Player of the Season award.

McCabe pipped Frida Maanum to the accolade by just two per cent, marking her second time receiving the prestigious award.

Amid the injury setbacks of key players like Kim Little and Leah Williamson, McCabe’s versatility as both a full-back and a winger on either flank proved vital for Arsenal.

Her relentless performance away at Wolfsburg in the Champions League semi-final and the WSL Goal of the Season against Manchester City were standout highlights in an exceptional campaign.

Off the pitch, the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) recognised Reiss Nelson and Kaylan Marckese as Community Champions for the 2022/23 season. This award commends players who have made extraordinary commitments to their club’s local communities.

Nelson has consistently shown his passion for supporting the community throughout his career at Arsenal. His recent visit to his old school, where he funded a new artificial pitch, is a testament to his dedication to providing opportunities for children to play and develop their talent.

American goalkeeper, Kaylan Marckese, despite joining in July 2022, has shown an outstanding commitment to engaging with community initiatives throughout the season.

Whether encouraging young primary school girls to pursue careers in sport or speaking at the Embrace Equity event during International Women’s Month, Marckese has proven to be a remarkable community asset.

With the 2022/23 season wrapped up, Arsenal fans have much to be proud of, both on and off the pitch.
