Trossard says Arsenal’s title race slip-up is their own doing, not Manchester City’s advantage, as Gunners face tough final fixtures.
- Leandro Trossard believes Arsenal’s slip-up in the title race is their own fault, not due to Manchester City’s advantage.
- Arsenal faces challenging fixtures, including matches against Brighton and Newcastle United, in the final stages of the season.
- Trossard emphasises the importance of winning remaining games, but acknowledges that the title race is now in Manchester City’s hands.
Leandro Trossard says Arsenal’s concession of the advantage in the title race was entirely on them, not Manchester City.
Going into the final four games of the season, Manchester City have a four-point advantage in the title race, and they arguably have the easier fixtures as well.
Both teams have a tough game against Brighton, but the Gunners also have to go to St. James’ Park to face Newcastle United, one of the best teams in the league right now.
City should ease past Chelsea on current form, and Brentford have fallen off significantly since their strong start to the season. That just leaves a game against relegation candidates Everton.
Even though Arsenal’s games against Nottingham Forest and Wolves don’t look so bad, the title race might be over before we even reach that stage.
It’s a dramatic change from just a month or two ago, when Arsenal had a bit of a lead over their title rivals.
The defeat to City was a blow, but Leandro Trossard thinks Arsenal can only blame themselves for dropping points in their other games.
“It’s all about us, I think,” Trossard said. “Obviously it’s not in our hands anymore, but before, it was just looking at ourselves. If we would have won all those games, it would be a different story.
“But we gave them (City) that a little bit, to come back into the race. And obviously now they are ahead of us.
“But that’s when you’re competing on the highest level, they’re a top side as well, they show it every year. I think it’s down to us to be at this level as well.”
Even with the defeat to City, Arsenal would be two points clear at the top of the league if they’d won their matches against Liverpool, West Ham, and Southampton.
But they gave up two winning positions and gifted Southampton an early lead to heap the pressure on themselves ahead of the City clash.
Anything but a win at Newcastle would surely spell the end for any remaining hopes of a title win. Even three points might not be enough, as it’s in City’s hands now.
