Scottish Premiership club Rangers are keen to sign Auston Trusty from Arsenal, making him their primary summer target.

  • Rangers hope to pay £2m, a low fee considering Auston Trusty’s recent accomplishments.
  • Trusty aspires to play in the Premier League, making a move to the Scottish Premiership uncertain.

Writing in the Mail+ Transfer Confidential newsletter this week, Simon Jones reported that Rangers are keen to get a deal done with Arsenal to sign Auston Trusty, who is emerging as their main target.

The report suggests Rangers are hoping to pay just £2m for the transfer, however, which would be disappointing.

Technically, a £2m sale would represent a profit for Arsenal, who bought Trusty for just £1.8m last year. But it’s such a marginal profit that it’s barely worth mentioning for a club of Arsenal’s stature.

Trusty is also coming off the back of a loan spell with Birmingham City where he won the Supporters’ Player of the Season award. He was only a couple of appearances off hitting 50 games for the side.

Then there’s the fact that the centre-back has become a full international since joining Arsenal, making his debut for the United States Men’s National Team in March.

Starring in the Championship doesn’t necessarily turn you into a player worth tens of millions.

But Trusty has proven he can compete in English football, and with all the money in the football league at the moment, you’d imagine you could find a bidder offering more than £2m.

Speaking in a recent interview, Trusty also admitted he’d like to play in the Premier League.

“A lot is to come in the future but as a footballer those are problems you want,” Trusty responded to questions on his future. “It’s all a good thing.

“As a player, you want to play with the best, wherever that is. Right now the Premier League is probably the best league in the world so that is obviously the goal for myself and my future.”

Whether Trusty would be interested in a move to the Scottish Premiership instead remains to be seen.

Arsenal fans will hope that if the defender is indeed on the move so soon after joining, the club will be able to negotiate a better deal than Rangers are pushing.
