Arsenal’s Spanish centre-back, Pablo Mari, is set for a permanent move from the club, following Monza’s recent Serie A survival.

As reported by CalcioMercato.it, Mari’s successful loan spell at Monza has been a significant factor in their battle against relegation. With Monza now safe from the drop with five games remaining, the club has met all the requirements to finalise Mari’s €6m transfer.

In March, reports from Spain highlighted Mari’s achievement of playing in at least 50% of Monza’s matches this season – one of the two necessary goals for the transfer clause to be triggered.

With Monza’s relegation successfully avoided, the club is now ready to pay Arsenal the required €6m for Mari’s services.

The Spanish defender initially joined Arsenal from Brazilian side Flamengo in 2020, making a total of 22 appearances for the Gunners. Mari was loaned to Udinese last season before making the move to Monza, where he has impressed with 26 appearances so far.

As Mari’s permanent exit from Arsenal looms, the Gunners will look to utilise the funds generated from the sale to strengthen other areas of the squad. Mikel Arteta’s team is currently seeking defensive improvements, with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi reportedly being eyed as a potential addition.

Monza’s Serie A survival is a remarkable achievement for the club, who can now look forward to building on their success next season.

With Pablo Mari playing a key role in Monza’s three-man defence under Raffaele Palladino, supporters are said to be eagerly awaiting the official announcement of his permanent transfer from Arsenal.

Monza’s Serie A survival triggers €45m in transfer obligations and bonuses

Monza has achieved mathematical safety in Serie A this season, resulting in over €45m in costs for the club.

After securing promotion to the Italian top-flight last season, the team brought in key reinforcements, such as Matteo Pessina, Andrea Petagna, Pablo Marì, Alessio Cragno, and Gianluca Caprari.

These signings all had conditional obligation to buy clauses linked to avoiding relegation, which have now been triggered.

In addition, the squad and staff are set to receive €6,154,500 in bonuses for their successful Serie A debut season.
