Sami Mokbel reports for the Daily Mail that Brighton intend to make a formal offer to Reiss Nelson at the end of the current campaign.

As it stands, Nelson’s contract will expire at the end of the season, at which point he’ll be free to leave on a free transfer.

Arsenal have made the youngster an offer of a new contract, but he’s yet to accept it.

A number of Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in Nelson, but it seems Brighton are the most serious about a move should he decide not to extend with Arsenal.

Brighton got a first-hand look at what Nelson can do in the League Cup clash between the two sides earlier this season. The winger provided an assist for Eddie Nketiah and was one of Arsenal’s best players in defeat.

Nelson has had other impressive cameos, including his two goals and an assist against Nottingham Forest, his dramatic goal and assist against Bournemouth, and recent positive substitute appearances against Manchester City and Chelsea.

But after just 526 minutes for the season so far, it’s understandable that Nelson is considering his options.

It’s very possible the winger might be able to break into the Arsenal team more often next season. If his strong form and development continues, you’d imagine Mikel Arteta will bet on him more regularly.

Arsenal will have to manage minutes better, with both the Premier League and the Champions League to think about, so it’s hard to imagine one lineup playing every game.

Nelson will have to make his own decision as to whether he thinks things are likely to keep improving for him next year, or whether a move on to Brighton appeals more.
