FIFA has confirmed it has approved a request by the U.S. Soccer Federation to change Folarin Balogun’s national eligibility from England.
AP News report that the United States are now able to select Folarin Balogun for international duty, with the player opting to represent the U.S. over England.
FIFA have reportedly confirmed to AP and The Athletic that they’ve approved a request by the U.S. Soccer Federation to change Balogun’s national eligibility from England.
The striker was also eligible to make the switch to represent Nigeria, but it seems he’s opted for the U.S. instead.
The English Football Association also had to consent to the change of eligibility, so the fact that it’s gone through suggests that’s the end of the story now.
Balogun and the U.S. Men’s National Team are yet to confirm the switch, though perhaps Balogun’s social media activity suggests he’s gearing up for an announcement.
The striker has removed all content from his Instagram profile, leaving just his name. That could hint at plans for a fresh start.
We await that official confirmation, but it certainly looks like Balogun is preparing for a lot of career changes.
As well as stepping up from the England u21s to the United States senior side, the striker is also increasingly likely to leave Arsenal this summer.
The 21-year-old has scored 20 goals for Stade de Reims on loan this season.
