Arsenal Women’s team is poised to make history next season by playing an increased number of Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL) matches at the Emirates Stadium.

The team, managed by Jonas Eidevall, will play five WSL matches in the iconic arena throughout the 2023/24 season, up from three league games this season.

This decision follows the remarkable support Arsenal Women have received at the Emirates, which saw a new record attendance set for the WSL when they played Tottenham Hotspur in September 2022.

Over 53,000 fans were in attendance, making it a day to remember for women’s football.

Subsequently, matches against Manchester United and Chelsea drew crowds of over 40,000 and 46,000 spectators respectively. This season has also seen the team play five UEFA Women’s Champions League matches at the Emirates, culminating in a historic sold-out crowd of over 60,000 for the semi-final second leg against Wolfsburg.

In total, more than 240,000 tickets have been purchased to watch Arsenal Women play at the Emirates Stadium during the current season.

Arsenal CEO Vinai Venkatesham expressed his delight at the continued growth of women’s football and the team’s increasing presence at the iconic stadium.

“We’re delighted to confirm that our women’s first team will play five WSL games at Emirates Stadium next season,” said Venkatesham.

“We’ve received fantastic support at Emirates Stadium this year, setting a new record attendance in the WSL and achieving a memorable sell-out for our recent UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final against Wolfsburg earlier this month.”

The move to play more matches at the Emirates is seen as a significant step towards the sustainable growth of women’s football, providing Arsenal Women with a larger stage to showcase their talents and reach a wider audience.

Arsenal Women’s current home ground, Meadow Park in Boreham Wood, has become insufficient for the growing fan base, leading to discussions about a more permanent move to the Emirates Stadium.

In March, when asked about playing more games at the Emirates, manager Jonas Eidevall said, “I think when we talk about growing the game, that’s absolutely fundamental for creating these moments with our supporters.”

He added, “I think it’s been absolutely fundamental, that without us being able to experience playing here so many times, but also to get supporters here to experience it so many times with us. It helps us to do this tonight.”

Eidevall expressed his hopes for the future, stating, “I really hope that it continues to push. I get the sense of belief that we’re seeing history getting created very quickly in front of our eyes when I see how the attendances and the culture is here at the Emirates Stadium.”

As preparations continue for the next season, Arsenal will offer five-game packages to supporters, ensuring they can secure their seats for all WSL games at the Emirates Stadium in the coming year.
