Arsenal’s Beth Mead, sidelined with ACL injuries, received a silver lining to her difficult season as she was awarded MBEs at Windsor Castle today. While Leah Williamson was also awarded the same honour, it is not clear if hers was collected on Wednesday.

The dynamic duo, who have been instrumental in the Lionesses’ success, were recognised for their contributions to football after helping England win the Euros.

The MBEs come as a bittersweet season for the Arsenal stars, who have been ruled out of action due to their respective injuries. However, the honours serve as a testament to their resilience and dedication to the sport, both on and off the pitch.

Beth Mead, who grew up near Whitby, had an impressive run at Euro 2022, winning the Golden Boot award and being named Sports Personality of the Year.

In addition to her accomplishments on the international stage, Mead has been a key player for Arsenal, contributing to their success in the Women’s Super League.

Leah Williamson, England’s captain, not only led her team to victory at Euro 2022 but has also been a consistent force in Arsenal’s defence.

Her leadership and experience have been invaluable to the club and have earned her the respect of fans and peers alike.

As Mead accepted her MBE, she was joined by fellow Lioness Lucy Bronze, with both players being recognised for their services to football. The ceremony was a proud moment for the Arsenal community and a reminder of the talent and determination within the team, despite the challenges they face.

England head coach Sarina Wiegman, who was pivotal in guiding the Lionesses to victory, was also honoured with an honorary CBE by the Foreign Office, highlighting the collective success of the team and coaching staff.
