David Ornstein reports for The Athletic that the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United are all monitoring Ethan Nwaneri’s situation this summer, but Arsenal haven’t given up on convincing him to accept their offer to stay.

Nwaneri’s previous schoolboy deal runs out this summer, and due to his age, Arsenal are unable to offer him a professional contract at this stage.

But they can give him scholarship terms, and they’re currently in talks attempting to do so.

Ornstein reports that Arsenal have recently held new dialogue with Nwaneri’s camp over an extension, and all parties are still awaiting a firm decision.

Most Arsenal fans will remember Nwaneri’s Premier League debut against Brentford earlier in the season, but the 16-year-old has spent much of the campaign with either the u18s or the u21s.

The midfielder scored six goals and provided three assists for the u18s this season, including a couple of goals in the run to the FA Youth Cup final for Jack Wilshere’s side.

Then he also provided an assist and made more than 10 appearances for the u21s, including five Premier League 2 starts.

For such a young player, that’s an impressive campaign, and Arsenal have certainly shown they’re willing to fast-track Nwaneri’s career development.

That’s one advantage they should have over their rivals, who may not be able to promise the same thing.

Chelsea and City have stacked academies, so even if they do promise minutes, Nwaneri should be wary of believing those claims.

For the time being, Nwaneri is away at the u17 European Championship, so we may need to wait for England’s elimination for any further progress to be made on an Arsenal extension.

Nwaneri scored for England in their opening group win over Croatia, and he also started in the win over the Netherlands.

England have qualified for the knockout stages, so Nwaneri will stay with his national side until at least the quarter-final on May 27th.

If England continue to progress, he’ll be at the tournament until the final on June 2nd.
