Arsenal are one of the clubs with an admiration for Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves, who is likely to be sold to raise funds for their summer business.

Simon Jones reports in the Mail+ Transfer Confidential newsletter that Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui has been made aware that sales are necessary and funds are relatively tight for the club this summer.

Players are likely to be sold to raise money, and Ruben Neves and Matheus Nunes are reportedly top of the list.

Jones adds that Arsenal, Barcelona, and Newcastle United are all interested in Neves this summer.

Declan Rice remains Arsenal’s priority transfer target for the summer window, but Mail+ claim the Gunners have other options in case that move fails.

Neves is one of them, along with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

Wolves want £45m for Neves, who is keen to play Champions League football, though they’d rather sell abroad.

Barcelona would appear to be the frontrunners on that basis, and reports suggest they may even have agreed terms with the player, but they have financial difficulties of their own.

Whether Barcelona could actually afford the transfer fee for Neves is unclear. And if they aren’t willing to pay the asking price, then the whole point of Wolves selling to raise funds no longer applies.

You wouldn’t expect an Arsenal move for Neves in the near future, as it will likely need to wait until we find out what’s happening with Rice.

The Rice deal itself is on hold until after West Ham complete their participation in the Europa Conference League on June 7th, so there are a lot of dominoes yet to fall.

Neves made 41 appearances for Wolves this season, scoring six goals from midfield.
