Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on Bayern Munich’s young midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, as the club searches for potential reinforcements in the number eight position.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, both the Gunners and fellow Premier League heavyweights Liverpool are showing interest in the 20-year-old, who has had limited playing time at the Allianz Arena since joining from Ajax.

Despite high expectations upon his arrival, Gravenberch has struggled to establish himself in Bayern’s star-studded midfield, playing only 350 minutes in the Bundesliga thus far.

As a result, the Dutch international is open to a move away from the German champions, seeking more playing time and opportunities to develop his promising career.

Gravenberch’s frustrations were evident in a recent interview with Voetbal International, where he expressed disappointment with his current role at Bayern. “I haven’t spoken to the club management yet, so we’ll wait and see what happens. But it’s clear that this role doesn’t match my expectations,” he said.

Arsenal, who have also been linked to Mohammed Kudus recently, see Gravenberch as a viable option to strengthen their midfield.

However, prying the youngster away from Bayern may prove to be a challenge, as Romano notes that the German giants are keen on retaining his services.

“The big problem for Gravenberch remains Bayern,” says the Italian in his column for Caught Offside. “They want to keep Ryan, they are clear about that. There will be a meeting in May to discuss the situation.”

With competition for places fierce at Bayern, particularly from the likes of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, Gravenberch is exploring his options.

Arsenal’s interest in the talented midfielder could provide the youngster with the fresh start he desires, but it remains to be seen whether a deal can be struck between the two clubs.
