Alexis Sanchez revives his Arsenal prowess at Marseille

Alexis Sanchez, a name that resonates with the Arsenal faithful, is currently enjoying his best goalscoring season since he bid farewell to the North London club. The Chilean forward is now showcasing his skills at the French club, Olympique de Marseille.

In the 2022-2023 Ligue 1 season, Sanchez has already netted 14 goals. This is a record he hasn’t broken since his 2016-2017 season with Arsenal, where he scored 24 goals in the Premier League.

His current form has led to widespread acclaim, with his coach, Igor Tudor, comparing him to the likes of Lionel Messi and that other one.

A key factor in Sanchez’s success has been his position as a centre-forward in Marseille’s 3-4-2-1 formation. This has allowed him to hone his goalscoring prowess, leading him to become the top scorer for Marseille in the French league.

Comparisons are being drawn to his stints at Manchester United and Inter Milan, where, despite the magnitude of the clubs and adding silverware to his collection, his goalscoring feats were not as impressive, to put it mildly.

With 14 goals in 32 games, Sanchez is currently experiencing his highest-scoring league season in six years.

Sanchez’s performances have been instrumental in keeping Marseille in the fight for the Ligue 1 title, although Paris Saint-Germain, led by Lionel Messi, are the most likely to become champions.

Indeed, Alexis has come a long way since his time at Arsenal. The player fondly referred to as El Niño Maravilla has not shone this brightly on the field in years.
