According to RMC Sport, Nuno Tavares picked up a knock in training with Marseille this week.

The Arsenal loanee will certainly be absent for Sunday’s game against Lyon, as Marseille have already confirmed he’s not part of their squad for the fixture.

In general, Tavares has been a nailed-on starter for Marseille in 2023 so far.

With the exception of the three games he missed for his red-card suspension in January and a minor thigh injury in February, Tavares had started every other Ligue 1 game from the turn of the year until last weekend.

More than that, he’d completed 90 minutes in all of those 11 games except the one in which he was sent off.

But the loanee dropped to the bench against Troyes last weekend, before missing out on the squad this week with his injury setback.

In all, Tavares has made 34 appearances in all competitions this season, playing over 2,800 minutes of football and scoring six goals.

The Portugal u21 international certainly can’t complain about his opportunities, and getting a chance to feature regularly in one of Europe’s top-five leagues and the Champions League.

But for now, his focus will be on getting fit again before the end of the campaign.
