Ramsdale reflects on mixed Arsenal emotions

Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield showcased the team’s strong mentality and resilience, according to goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, Ramsdale discussed the balance of the game and the importance of securing a point from a challenging encounter.

Reflecting on the match, Ramsdale admitted that it was a mix of “a point saved or two points dropped.”

The importance of a point at Anfield

Arsenal held a lead for over an hour, but ultimately had to dig deep and weather an onslaught of pressure from Liverpool in the final 35 minutes.

The goalkeeper emphasised the significance of taking a point from a top side like Liverpool, especially at their home ground, where the crowd is known for playing a role in driving their team on.

Ramsdale was a standout performer, making crucial saves that ultimately secured the draw for Arsenal.

He expressed his enjoyment of playing in high-stakes matches and was pleased that his efforts helped the team: “Unfortunately we couldn’t get all three points but at least my saves have helped.”

The goalkeeper also praised Arsenal’s mentality during the match, stating that the team’s performance was excellent and that they did not let previous encounters with Liverpool influence their game. He acknowledged, however, that two lapses in concentration led to the equalising goals.

“I thought we were excellent,” he said. “We didn’t show anything about previous games against them. For 50 minutes we were very good, but in the end got unlocked by two goals.”

Looking forward, Ramsdale emphasised the importance of taking the positives from the match and building on them.

He praised manager Mikel Arteta for his positivity and shared that the team would be reviewing the successful moments from the first half when they went 2-0 up.

“That’s what the manager will be saying,” Ramsdale added. “He’s hugely positive, and we’ll digest it over the next few days and we’ll definitely be showing all the good stuff we did in the first half to go 2-0 up.

Ultimately, only time will tell how valuable this point will be for Arsenal. Ramsdale concluded, “One point is a lot better than none, it’s another point on the board, and we go from there.”

The draw, which was Arsenal’s first point in seven years at Anfield, demonstrated the team’s (mostly) strong mentality along with some of their youthful fragility. They will need to continue displaying that resilience as they push forward in the season.

If they repeat their results from the last eight games over the final eight, they will be crowned champions.
