William Saliba’s injury status for Arsenal’s game against Manchester City in just over a week remains subject to speculation.

Arsenal play against Manchester City in a key game for the title race next Wednesday, and Gunners defender William Saliba is in a race against time to be fit for the contest.

The Evening Standard report that Arsenal are hoping to see Saliba back in training soon, but the trip to City currently looks like it will come too soon for the centre-back.

According to the Standard, Saliba is targeting the final games of the season at this stage.

But not all sources agree. Football insider Leaked Lineups reports on Twitter that they’ve heard suggestions from people at London Colney that Saliba is likely to either make it back for the City game or take the rest of the season off.

Presumably, that’s because Arsenal are now at the point of making a decision on whether or not the defender will need to have an operation.

Leaked Lineups previously reported that after Saliba’s first injury scan, Arsenal believed he’d need surgery. But further assessments suggested they could get him through games.

If that turns out to be correct, Saliba could play a part in the run-in. If not, he’ll need to have the surgery and won’t be available at all.

If Leaked Lineups’ information is correct, it sounds like Arsenal will make a call on the rest of Saliba’s season this week, and he’ll either be ruled sufficiently fit for the City clash, or booked in for his operation.

Given Saliba’s importance to Mikel Arteta’s side, it’s going to be a long week while we await the outcome.
