Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard discusses his frustration after the 2-2 draw at Anfield against Liverpool and praises Aaron Ramsdale.
Arsenal’s captain Martin Odegaard opened up about his frustration following the Gunners’ draw at Anfield against Liverpool.
Despite a promising start and a two-goal lead in the first half, Arsenal couldn’t secure the win, with the match ending in a thrilling 2-2 draw.
Odegaard acknowledged Arsenal’s strong start to the game, stating, “We started the game really well. Before they scored, we controlled everything.
“We played the way we wanted to play and how we planned to try and attack the game, it was good.”
However, the momentum shifted after Liverpool scored their first goal, with Odegaard pointing out that the team gave the ball away in “stupid areas” and let Liverpool create numerous problems, especially in the second half.
While expressing his disappointment with the result, Odegaard emphasised the need to move forward and focus on the upcoming matches.
“In the end, it’s a point we have to take and move on. Of course, we’re all frustrated as we wanted to come here and win, but we have to move on and just win the next one,” he said.
Odegaard also highlighted the challenges of playing at Anfield, stating that a team has to be at their very best in every situation.
He felt that Arsenal had a chance to win the game, making the draw even more disappointing. “It’s a tough place to come, but I feel like we had the chance today, and that’s why it’s a bit disappointing with the way the game changed, especially in the second half,” he added.
The Arsenal captain didn’t miss the opportunity to praise goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for his outstanding performance.
Ramsdale made numerous crucial saves during the game, preventing Liverpool from taking the lead.
Odegaard said, “Yes, he played a great game and saved us in many situations. As I said, it could have been more goals for them, but he was unbelievable, and a missed penalty as well, so I’ll guess we’ll have to take the point and move on.”
With the Anfield draw behind them, Arsenal will be looking to bounce back and secure a win in their next Premier League game against West Ham on 16 April.
