  • Arsenal squandered a two-goal lead against West Ham, similar to their lapse against Liverpool the previous week.
  • Captain Martin Odegaard criticised his teammates for giving away the game and making “stupid things” on the ball.
  • Arsenal must bounce back against Southampton and Manchester City to maintain their position in the league.

Arsenal’s captain Martin Odegaard expressed his disappointment in his teammates for squandering another two-goal lead, this time against West Ham United. The setback comes just a week after a similar lapse against Liverpool at Anfield.

In the match against West Ham, goals from Gabriel Jesus and Odegaard propelled Mikel Arteta’s side to a two-goal advantage. However, the Hammers mounted a comeback with goals from Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen to snatch a point from the Gunners.

A missed late opportunity by Michail Antonio could have resulted in an even more disastrous outcome for Arsenal. Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Odegaard vented his frustration with his teammates’ performance.

“There was a lot of the same things as last week; we started well but then stopped, allowing them to play to their strengths,” said the Norwegian playmaker.

Odegaard further lamented, “We gave them the game they wanted, we gave them hope, and that’s on us. We have to look forward now.”

The captain also pointed out the “stupid things” done on the ball, which allowed West Ham to exploit long balls.

“Plus, we started to do a lot of stupid things on the ball, we allowed them to play on the long balls.

Despite the recent setbacks, Odegaard reminded his teammates that Arsenal are still at the top of the league with control of their own destiny. He urged the team to maintain the same mindset and mentality to secure victory in the upcoming matches.

“We have to remember we are still top of the league with everything in our own hands,” he said.

“Now, we need to have the same mindset, same mentality to make sure we win the next one.”

Arsenal will face Southampton on Friday, looking to bounce back before a midweek clash with Manchester City, which could prove to be a title decider.

Arteta will be hoping that his side learns from these recent collapses as the Premier League title race intensifies.
