Gary Neville says Arsenal can rip Manchester City to shreds at the Etihad Stadium, but only if they approach the game with the right attitude.

There’s no doubt that Arsenal’s title challenge has taken a significant hit in the last week and a bit, with the Gunners dropping four points from winning positions away to Liverpool and West Ham United.

Though Mikel Arteta’s side remain four points clear at the top of the Premier League, Manchester City have a game in a hand and a home match against Arsenal coming up.

If City win all their games, including that Arsenal match, they’ll win the league. But if Arsenal win all their games, and either draw or win at the Etihad, they’ll win the league.

Despite the recent slip-up, the title is still there to be won, it just now requires going to Manchester and pulling off a result.

Gary Neville thinks that’s something to be excited about, pointing out that Manchester City won’t be approaching the fixture tentatively.

“This is something to be excited about, not something to feel pressure about,” Neville said. “City will love this game, because they’ve been there before, Guardiola will love this game.

“But Arteta’s got to love this game, and I’m sure he will. And his players have got to love this game.

“Martinelli, Saka, Odegaard, Jesus… They can go and rip City to shreds, a week on Wednesday. They can! They can go and score three at the Etihad.

“That’s what they’ve got to think, they’ve got to think they’re going to go and create history.

“Think of Michael Thomas, think of Ljungberg at Old Trafford, think of all those times where their players and their predecessors have done it before.”

Neville added that he still thinks City will win the league, but he hopes Arsenal will do it for the competitive balance of the league.

Perhaps the fact that City are closing in on a potential treble is also playing into his thinking now.

Arsenal are certainly capable of taking a game to City. We’ve seen it on a couple of occasions over the last year or so, but individual errors (and a couple of poor refereeing decisions) have seen Pep Guardiola’s side come away victorious anyway.

If Arsenal are going to win the Premier League, this time needs to be different.
