Arsenal and Tottenham monitor Nathan Wood’s rise at Swansea City

The young defender Nathan Wood, who currently plays for Swansea City, has reportedly caught the attention of both Arsenal and Tottenham.

Both clubs are apparently interested in the 20-year-old former Hibernian loanee, who has impressed this season with his performances in the English Championship.

Nathan Wood’s journey from Middlesbrough to Swansea

Nathan Wood began his career at Middlesbrough, where his father, Dean Gordon, also played.

He then moved to Hibernian on a season-long loan last year but only played one game before his loan was cut short.

The promising centre-back signed with Swansea City in the summer for a fee of around £400,000.

Since joining the Welsh side, Wood has made 38 appearances in all competitions and contributed to seven clean sheets.

His excellent performances on the field also earned him a debut for England Under-21s.

Swansea’s attempt to secure Wood’s future

Wood’s contract at Swansea runs until the summer of 2024, with an option for an additional year.

However, Fabrizio Romano claims that the club are looking to secure him on an improved deal to avoid losing him in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Swansea City manager Russell Martin has expressed his admiration for the young defender, stating that he is a “huge asset” to the club both on and off the pitch.

Martin also believes that Wood is destined for the “very top” of the game and hopes to work with him for more than one season.

“I look at him and he is 6ft 3in, he is built like a heavyweight boxer and he can run very fast,” Martin added.

“He displays unbelievable courage and technique on the ball, and just the amount of growth he has had this season. He’s an incredible learner and he’s incredibly brave with the way that he plays.

“He will play at the very top, no doubt about it. He will be a huge asset financially at some point.”

Nathan Wood’s Premier League prospects

Should Wood continue to impress at Swansea, he could potentially make a big-money move to the Premier League, with Arsenal and Tottenham closely monitoring his progress.

Both clubs have a history of nurturing young talent, and Wood could be the next in line to join their ranks.
