Following the thrilling 2-2 draw against Arsenal, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is considering whether to strip Mohamed Salah of his penalty-taking duties.
Salah, a prolific score for the Reds, missed his last two spot-kicks against Bournemouth and Arsenal, raising questions about his continued role in that capacity.
In Sunday’s match against Arsenal, Salah failed to convert a crucial penalty, dragging a tame effort wide of the post after Diego Jota had won the ‘foul’.
This came on the heels of a similar miss at the Vitality Stadium against Bournemouth. As a result, the Liverpool manager is now contemplating a change in the team’s penalty-taking hierarchy.
Jurgen Klopp, when asked if Salah would be relieved of his penalty-taking responsibilities, said, “That’s something we will talk about, but not here.”
During the Arsenal game, Klopp admitted that he didn’t watch Salah’s penalty attempt and initially thought the 30-year-old Egyptian had scored.
He explained, “I only saw the penalty after the game. A few people in the crowd reacted, so when you don’t see the penalty, you react on what the people see and a few people obviously thought the ball was in but it wasn’t. He missed the goal.
“So that’s why for a second the fist, and then I realized, ‘Oh, Mo isn’t celebrating.’ And then I realised the ball wasn’t it. That’s it.”
